3s League Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Everything you need to know about Orange County's premier youth 3×3 basketball league

What is 3s League?

3s League is Orange County's first dedicated youth 3-on-3 basketball league for boys and girls ages 9U–14U. Inspired by official FIBA 3x3 rules, our league focuses on skill development, confidence, and fun in a fast-paced, half-court format where every player gets more touches, more shots, and more learning opportunities.

How is 3-on-3 basketball different from traditional 5-on-5?

3x3 basketball is played on a half court with one hoop, giving players more ball-handling, shooting, and defensive reps every game. It's faster-paced, promotes teamwork and basketball IQ, and helps players develop skills they can translate directly to 5-on-5 play.

What are the official rules for 3s League games?

Games follow FIBA 3x3 rules with slight youth-friendly adjustments. All rules can be found here: 3sleague.com/rules

Who can play in 3s League?

3s League is open to boys and girls ages 7–14. Players can sign up individually or as a team. All skill levels are welcome, and we group players by age and experience to ensure balanced, competitive games.

How do I register my child or team?

Registration is available on our website at 3sleague.com/register. You can register as an individual player and be placed on a team or sign up with friends to form your own team. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

When and where are games played?

Games are played on weekends at top indoor gyms across South Orange County, including Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and Irvine.

What makes 3s League different from other youth basketball leagues?

3s League is designed around fun, skill growth, and confidence through 3-on-3 play. Every player gets more touches, more involvement, and more opportunities to learn. Our league structure, values and FIBA 3x3-inspired format make it the perfect mix of competition and fun for kids.

What equipment or uniforms are required?

Each player receives a 3s League jersey with registration. Players should bring their own basketball (size 6 or 7, depending on age) and water. All other equipment and scorekeeping are provided by the league.

Can parents and families watch the games?

Yes! Families are encouraged to attend, cheer and be a positive reinforcement for their kids. Games are high-energy, family-friendly and often include music, interviews and highlights.

Who's involved in 3s League?

3s League was founded by Blake Arnet, a Mater Dei and UCLA basketball alum, and founder of Dunk MS (dunkms.com). Blake has brought together an incredible group of advisors and leaders who share his vision for growing youth basketball, including:

• Gary McKnight: Mater Dei Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach and Most Wins in California High School Basketball History

• Kevin Kiernan: Troy High School Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach and Most Wins in California High School Girls Basketball History

• Jody Wynn: Mater Dei Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach, USC Star and Former NCAA D1 Head Coach

• Henry Caruso: Team USA 3x3 Champion & MVP

How does 3s League prepare players for higher levels of basketball?

3x3 is officially recognized by FIBA and the Olympics. It helps players build core fundamentals like spacing, basketball IQ, decision-making, and creativity — faster than traditional 5-on-5. Many top coaches in high school and college use 3x3 drills in their practices.
