Concussion Safety & Return-to-Play Protocol

Updated January 12, 2026

How we recognize concussions, remove athletes from play, and require clearance.

At 3s League, the safety, well-being, and development of our players is our top priority. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive, and secure environment for every athlete, family, coach, and staff member.

Below you'll find our core safety policies and procedures. These policies apply to all 3s League programs, events, staff, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, and participants.

Purpose

3s League prioritizes athlete health and safety and follows strict concussion management and return-to-play protocols consistent with state law and medical best practices.

Education

  • Coaches and staff must complete concussion awareness training
  • Parents and players are educated on concussion signs, symptoms, and reporting expectations

Recognition & Removal from Play

Any athlete suspected of having a concussion must be removed from play immediately.

When in doubt, sit it out.

Medical Evaluation & Clearance

  • No athlete may return to play on the same day of a suspected concussion
  • Athletes must be evaluated by a licensed healthcare professional trained in concussion management
  • Written medical clearance is required before returning to participation
  • All applicable state concussion and return-to-play laws are followed and take precedence over league discretion

Gradual Return-to-Play

Athletes must complete a step-by-step return-to-play progression under medical supervision. Athletes may only advance if no symptoms are present at the current stage.
