Role Overview
3s League is seeking experienced basketball referees to officiate games in our youth Olympic-style 3x3 basketball league. While prior FIBA-style 3x3 officiating experience is not required, referees must be willing to learn the basic rules, flow, and mechanics of Olympic-style 3x3 basketball. League-provided training will cover all 3x3-specific rules and expectations.
Referees play a critical role in maintaining fair play, safety, and game flow while helping create a positive, respectful, and educational environment for players.
Key Responsibilities
- •Officiate youth Olympic-style 3x3 basketball games in accordance with league rules
- •Learn and apply Olympic-style 3x3 rules consistently and fairly
- •Prioritize player safety and maintain proper game flow
- •Manage possessions and keep games on schedule
- •Communicate calls clearly and calmly to players, Court Monitors and league staff
- •Model professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect at all times
- •Support league staff and Court Monitors to remind players about 3x3 rules
Qualifications
- •Previous basketball refereeing experience required (youth, high school, or organized league level)
- •FIBA-style 3x3 refereeing experience not required
- •Willingness to learn and apply Olympic-style 3x3 rules and mechanics
- •Strong knowledge of general basketball rules and officiating fundamentals
- •Ability to manage games confidently while remaining calm and composed
- •Strong communication and conflict-management skills
- •Reliable, punctual, and professional
- •Comfortable officiating youth games in a development-focused environment
Training, Compliance & Safety
- •On-the-job training provided, including Olympic-style 3x3 rules, mechanics, and game flow
- •Must successfully complete all league-required compliance and child safety training
- •Must pass a background check prior to officiating games
- •Commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
